We decided that we officially upheld our obligation to raise our child Catholic. Sophia’s first word was "pope". We swear it’s true. My parents have a gigantic picture of my family meeting John Paul II back in 1995. Sophia loves photographs so Greg would always take her to the picture and point out each of the people, “Maddie, Uncle Sean, Nonna, Daddo, Mamma, and the….POPE!” During a family get together when Sophia was nine months old, my aunt Shery was showing Sophia around the hall when she, allegedly, pointed to the picture and said “Pope!” We have confirmation of this event caught in this video – although, admittedly it was taken several months later. But we’re sticking to the story!
