The other day we had a plan to go on a walk in Big Fork, but since everything is closed there on Sunday, we ended up at a restaurant with a dock right on Flathead Lake. Totally unbeknownst to us, we walked in on a "Set a butterfly free on Cancer Survivors Day" party! Not only that, but they had
monarch butterflies. Sophia was absolutely beside herself seeing the butterflies up so close for the first time: "Dada! Look! They-are-real-butterflies-not-pretend-butterflies-like-at-home-but-real-monarchs!" She
happily stood by the net of butterflies for a good hour-and-a-half before it was time to release them. (The free ice cream and face painting also helped the time go by quickly!)
Sophia released four monarch butterflies into nature at the appointed time. The air was alive with butterflies! It was awesome!
We even found a slightly injured butterfly that Sophia quickly befriended. Meet "Nectary"! : )
We even got to take Necary with us in the car while Sophia lovingly protected her and waited for her to get her strength back.
And on our way home, she seemed ready to fly, so Sophia lovingly (and sadly) released her back into nature with her friends. It was a day that we won't soon forget!!! : )
That's incredible! :)
