Japanese Garden

We made a trip to the Japanese Garden the other day.

Sophia both discovered and then fell in love with the sound the gravel made under her boots.  She walked up and down the same stretch of path again and again – crunch, crunch, crunch, crunch.

I finally coaxed her a little farther down the path over these big inlaid stones.   After realizing the bigger stones did not provide the crunching she had grown to love so much, she turned sideways and side-stepped between the big stones all the way across the section.

Across this divide, she decided, was a great place for 15 minutes of fun playing with the gravel – even though I'm pretty sure she didn’t have any feeling in her hands it was so cold out; and it was right in the middle of the path.
