For the Love of Chalk (or How Not to Share)

There are so many times in Sophia’s life where I have felt the sense of overwhelming pride in my daughter.  The story I’m about to tell is not exactly one of those moments.

When were at the park with our sidewalk chalk.  (We love the Dollar Store!)  After drawing all of our usual objects – snowman, moon, stars, Elmo – we went over to the swings.  It was at this time that I did something terrible: I told two little boys that they could play with said chalk.  Immediately after she realized what was going on, Sophia asked “down” from the swing, marched right over to the boys, took her box of chalk….and RAN!

She ran down the grassy hill, through the long grass and the mud, to the refuge of the basketball court!

Here she is coming back – after all the chalk “stealers” were gone – you can sort of see how steep and how far of a distance it is!
