Love, The Princess & her Dragon
2 weeks earlier.....
Dominic loves himself some choo choo trains these days, and I had the idea that maybe Dominic would have fun as Thomas the Tank Engine for Halloween. So I found a costume on Amazon Prime...$60. As I was recounting how appalled I'd been to Sophia on our drive home from school, she said, "I know, Mom! I will MAKE him a Thomas costume. It will be great!" So we got home, and she proceeded to find a box that she felt like could turn into a train, and set to work!
I did help her with the coloring, but she planned the whole design out and taped up the lines so that they would be straight. It was about a 3 hour project, but we had a great time doing it. Dominic even seemed enthusiastic upon the reveal.
And Sophia was so proud of herself and how it turned out, that she created a diagram to make sure we would not forget how we completed this project, if we ever wanted to do it in the future.
As Halloween was approaching, I became increasingly concerned that Dominic wanted nothing to do with his awesome costume. I also had a friend tell me that I would probably be carrying Dominic through downtown Whitefish (a feat impossible in train-box). So, when I saw a dragon costume at the thrift store for $1, I took the opportunity I was presented, and viola, I had a back-up plan.
Well, it turned out on the fateful Halloween day, Dominic wanted nothing to do with either costume, despite my pleading....so I stuffed him in the dragon (it would keep him warm, after all) and pushed him toward their first trick-or-treating destination! Success!!
It turns out that the candy worked as great bribery.
And in the post-candy sugar rush, I got a few photos before we retired for the evening. (Dominic even cooperated enough to put on his train costume for a photo op.)
This was our first Halloween that we didn't leave trick-or-treating prematurely with a screaming child, so I also consider it a very successful Halloween! : )
PS. The day before Halloween, we held our second annual Boo Party with Carol, Rich, Avery, and Rayme! Of course we ate the Barth traditional Spaghetti & Meatballs, with a few other treats!
